SmartSpace Green models begin with an improved building envelope technology derived from a design by NRB now known as the PC2000. Built for strength, durability and resistance to mold, this design maximizes long-term use and simplifies maintenance:

The all recycled steel construction means the building offers the benefits of the strength and non-combustibility of this environmentally friendly material.

A superior building envelope made with a blanket of rigid insulation and vapor barrier over the outside of the walls and roof provides optimal thermal protection that moves the "dew point" away from the wall cavity and exceeds ASHRAE standards. Moisture intrusion is minimized by exterior flashings that are tape sealed to the air barrier and a neoprene gasket that is applied to all horizontal flashings to prevent water migration by capillary action.

Mold-resistant features include a low VOC vinyl covered gypsum wall finish placed on a 3/4" recycled plastic strip that prevents wicking of water that may be introduced through wet-washing of floors or spills. More than 90% of the cellulose material found in most wood frame construction has been removed so there is little nutrient base on which mold can grow should water become present.

Energy efficient elements include HVAC units with C02 sensors that control ventilation based on occupancy, a programmable thermostat, an independent energy recovery ventilator and 3 1/2 tons of cooling for comfort and control of relative humidity. Heating is sized based on code requirements.
